ASEAN Energy Youth Awards 2023

Introduction

The ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) is pleased to announce the 4th ASEAN Energy Youth Awards (AEYA) to recognize young students’ valuable contributions to nation-building, sustainable development, and energy transition.

The theme of the 4th award is Advancing Energy Transition and Energy Security for Sustainable Development. This award is jointly organized by ACE and supported by the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy (MOTIE) of Korea and the Korea Energy Agency (KEA).

Objectives

They bring awareness and participation of youth in the promotion of the ASEAN Plan of Action for Energy Cooperation (APAEC) Phase II: 2021-2025.

To encourage the participation of youth in the AMS in expressing their perspectives and innovative ideas for enhancing energy access and affordability sustainably.

To engage the youth sector by using their creativity and innovation to enhance public awareness of clean energy, community building, and sustainable environment

Specifications

  • ASEAN and Korean Citizenship
  • The awards are open to enrolled High School and University/College (Bachelor’s degree) students
  • One applicant could only apply for one category
  • Applicants can be individual or group/team
  • The previous winners and runners-up cannot submit entries to the same categories in this year’s awards.

Essay

  • The acceptable file format is PDF
  • The length of the essay is no more than 1000 words (Times New Roman, 12, spacing: 1.5, Paper size: A4)
  • Language: English

Infographic Poster

  • The acceptable file formats are JPG, JPEG, PNG
  • File size: 2-5 MB
  • Language: English

Video

  • The acceptable file format is MP4
  • Video length: 3 mins
  • Size: no more than 3 GB
  • Language: English

Criteria and Distribution of Scores

Substance & Creativity (50%)

  • What message is portrayed by the work you do?

Relevance & Adherence (30%)

  • Relevance of submission to our objective: “Realising Energy Security for Sustainable Growth”

Originality (20%)

  • The work has not been published anywhere

Rules

  • The previous winners and runners-up cannot submit entries to the same categories in this year’s awards.
  • Applicant must provide the Title of Submission, Name of Applicant, and High School/University represented.
  • Applicants should follow/subscribe to ACE’s social media (Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook).
  • The applicants should submit their details, including a CV, Student ID, and/or an official letter from their Institution, proofing that he/she is currently enrolled with an authorized stamp/signature.
  • Submissions depicting violence, sexism, racism, or other inappropriate content such as smoking, drinking, or other vices, including messaging deemed to advocate curtailment of the rights of others, will be disqualified.
  • Submission must avoid plagiaristic contents taken from any documents or quoting statements without the author’s consent.

Evaluations

  • The Board of Judges (BOJ) shall complete and verify the Overall Tally Sheet with their signatures affixed.
  • ACE will shortlist the top 5 for each category then the BOJ will select the winners and runners-up.

  • By joining the awards, the applicants acknowledge and guarantee that their original work was created solely for these awards. It does not infringe on copyrights, trademarks, and any person or entity's privacy, publicity, or intellectual property rights.
  • By joining the awards, applicants agree to grant ACE the right to reproduce, distribute, display, and create derivative works of entry in any media at any time and at any cost.

Korean Nationalities

  • Essay: 1 Winner, 2 Runners-up
  • Infographic Poster: 1 Winner, 2 Runners-up
  • Video: 1 Winner, 2 Runners-up

High School level

  • Essay: 1 Winner, 2 Runners-up
  • Infographic Poster: 1 Winner, 2 Runners-up
  • Video: 1 Winner, 2 Runners-up

Prizes

The winners and runners-up will be announced during the Awarding Ceremony, in conjunction with the 41st of ASEAN Ministers on Energy Meeting (AMEM) in August 2023 and to be awarded cash prizes and medals by ACE, SEAMEO, MOTIE, and KEA.

  • Winner: 1000 USD
  • 1st Runner-Up: 750 USD
  • 2nd Runner-Up: 500 USD

High School

  • Winner: 1000 USD
  • 1st Runner-Up: 750 USD
  • 2nd Runner-Up: 500 USD

Timeline

  • 16 June: Official launching of the AEYA & calling for the entries
  • 11 July: Submission deadline for entries
  • 12-16 July: Evaluation by the BOJ
  • 16 July: Shortlisting of the top 5 per category by ACE
  • 23 July: The winners and runners-up are selected by BOJ
  • 28 July: Notification of the winners and runners-up by ACE
  • 25 August: The winners and runners-up will be announced at the 41st AMEM
